**87% of poor families in Romania cannot cover the education costs of their children on their own. This is one of the conclusions of the study conducted by Save the Children Romania.**
According to the document, nearly three out of five (58%) families with children enrolled in Save the Children Romania’s educational programs cannot manage the expenses related to their children’s education without external support, with the percentage dramatically increasing to 87% among those in a state of subjective poverty, as well as among those with a low level of education – 70%. In light of the new economic measures announced by the Government, the organization emphasizes the risk of further exposing vulnerable children, for whom integrated social policies are needed.
In this regard, for the 28th consecutive year, Save the Children Romania announces the opening of summer kindergartens and remedial education programs, where at-risk children receive sustained social and educational support, starting from the crucial early education phase. Additionally, the organization’s Mobile School will reach children in Bucharest and Iași, who have limited or no access to education, living in isolated areas or communities deeply affected by poverty.
The summer kindergartens are part of a complex program aimed at restoring equal and non-discriminatory access to education for vulnerable children through long-term socio-educational support measures, concerning both school and social inclusion, as well as social assistance provided to the family, as stated by the organization’s representatives.
